Saab has just released a brief overview and hi-res images of the 9-X Air Concept which is set to debut in Paris early next month. As earlier reported, the 9-X Air Concept foreshadows the Saab 9-3 convertible successor in 2011.
The 9-X Air concept breaks the mould of conventional convertible design with a unique patent-pending ‘Canopy Top’. The design incorporates prominent rear pillars which curve upwards to mount the flat folding fabric top, wraparound glasshouse and includes a separate recessed rear window/windscreen.
The 1.4-liter turbo Saab BioPower engine uses E85 biofuel and hybrid technology. The engine delivers 200 hp (147 kW) with a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration of 8.1 seconds and projected CO2 tailpipe emissions of just 107 g/km over the combined cycle.

Mercedes' star Paris Motor Show exhibit - and a pointer to the next generation E-Class

The Fascination will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, which takes place early in October - just a short hop over the Channel if you'd like to see it for yourself. Failing that we'll be bringing full details of this and the other exciting show moments right to your computer screen.
The accompanying press release confirms the 2009 E-Class will spawn a coupé - perhaps spelling the end of the current CLK (which apparently suffers by association with the 'budget' C-Class). The chances are, however, whatever the Fascination coupe turns out to be in real life, it won't have the same 'shooting brake' roofline.
It also contains two pairs of binoculars, and a top quality digital camera with interchangeable Leica lenses. A button press sees a glass table emerge from the floor, revealing a humidor beneath it and a fridge behind it, for champagne flutes and drinks. All intended for picnicking at the races.
In this case, however, all Mercedes is saying is that future E-Class models will feature a new four-cylinder diesel engine, with BlueTEC and AdBlue technology similar to that found on the BlueTEC ML we drove earlier this year. The new four-pot displaces 2.2 litres, and produces an impressive 201bhp.
Back to those lights. Not only does the concept feature LED headlight technology, but in an attempt to one-up Audi and BMW's current running light signatures, the Fascination uses C-shaped fibre-optic inserts. The single louvre grill design with large three-pointed star is a progression from existing Mercedes, including the CLS.
