As the Opel transaction takes on Biblical intrigue, the Hummer exchange goes on in another dark corner, laboriously, like the gestation of an elephant. The latest report from a Chinese news website states that General Motors and Tengzhong "might sign an agreement" this week, but that strikes us as exceedingly optimistic seeing that there's been no word on the government approving the deal yet.
Slightly more believable are the supposed deal points that would guide Tengzhong's initial ownership of Hummer: Tengzhong will own all of Hummer's intellectual property rights and sales network, but would not build Hummers in China and would operate the company as an off-shore entity based out of Detroit or Nashville.
General Motors would continue to build Hummers until 2012 and provide "technical services," and Tengzhong would continue to fund research and development, while the "off-shore" Hummer team (read: probably the folks doing the job now) would be responsible for launching the new H3 and H4. As for that H4, though, the article lists them as "CUV models." If the H4 is a CUV, we hope they manage to make it look like the 2008 Hummer HX concept shown above.
Tengzhong reps are headed to Detroit to continue discussions. The General's response, according to the CEO of Hummer is that "Negotiations continue to progress and the transaction will be announced upon the signing of the definitive agreement as soon as appropriate." Hat tip to Emilio!

Here is the first video of substance that we have seen of the F458 in motion. Although still camouflaged, we see a somewhat steady panning shot as the F458 rumbles down the road as well as a close up before entering the gates of Maranello HQ.
The Frankfurt Motor Show is fast approaching, but rather than hit the brakes as they would for an approaching corner, Ferrari is pulling out all the stops. In gearing up to unveil their new 458 Italia at the show next month, Ferrari is giving us a little more each week. We’ve already seen the first batch of shots, downloaded the ringtone and heard the company’s brand and technical directors talk about the car.
There’s also a new Vehicle Dynamic Assistance system to monitor operating temperatures and tolerances of the engine, gearbox, brakes and tires and alerts the driver to whether the car is warming up, overheated or ready to go. Check out the images in the gallery below and read all about it in the press release after the jump – which is where you’ll also find the video interview. Oh, and don’t forget to stay tuned for the next segment, as Ferrari says it will include an interview with Michael Schumacher! Thanks for the tip, Patrick.
Always eager to adopt lessons learned on the grand prix circuit into its road cars, Ferrari has further centralized the controls onto the Italia’s steering wheel. What we’d usually find on column-mounted control stocks has apparently all been moved to the steering wheel’s fascia, including the turn indicators, headlamps and windscreen wipers – in addition to the chassis setting switch and ignition button, while redundant stereo controls move to the back of the wheel ahead of the even larger shift paddles.

Spies have captured a round of photos showing the next generation Ford Focus for the first time in its hatchback glory. Previously spotted were sedan and wagon variants, but this marks the first time that a hatchback mule has been caught on camera. Perhaps a bit late in the development cycle for mules but the Focus is expected to go on sale in 2010 as a 2011 model year car, and should feature the choice of several different turbocharged engines.
An electric version of the Focus may also be sold in the American market. The EV is expected to have a 100-mile range making it an urban competitor to the Chevrolet Volt and a direct competitor to the MINI Cooper E.
Some say that the Ford Iosis Max concept car shown off in Geneva will be the basis for the next-gen Focus. That could mean a car with a raised chassis and wheels that sit snuggly in the wells providing a ride that is not the most aerodynamic but great for bumpy roads and speed traps (?). Expect to see a rounder front end, and perhaps a glass roof akin to the Citroen C3. This is all speculative, especially since the exterior of the test mule is nothing new.

MINI is celebrating its 50th birthday with the release of the first official photos of the Coupe Concept that is set to make its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. In essence, it's a MINI John Cooper Works hatch that had its rooftop cutoff and replaced with a coupe-like greenhouse and a steeper front windshield.
The Coupe Concept is a mix of previous MINI models, with a twist of originality. The front side panels are sourced from the MINI Convertible, while the body joint is inspired by the MINI Cooper S. On the other side, the new positioning of the A-pillars makes up for a brand new roof line.
The design of the weird-looking but lightweight aluminum top is said to have been inspired by a baseball hat that MINI designer Gert Hildebrand saw his teenage son wearing backwards - go figure. According to the company, the new roof lowers the car's centre of gravity thus significantly reducing body movement and optimizing driving behavior.
On the interior, the Coupe Concept boasts sport seats and three-spoke leather sports steering wheel with multifunction buttons, while the overall look of the dashboard keeps in line with what MINI used us to by now. Additionally, two Chronoswiss clocks to the left and right of the center-mounted rev counter are reminiscent of earlier MINI concepts.
Power comes from a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine that produces 211 hp and 260Nm (192 lb-ft) of torque. The Coupe Concept also features an overboost function which can temporarily deliver a maximum of 280Nm (206 lb-ft) of torque. Considering that the JCW Mini runs from 0-60 mph in 6.2 seconds, the Coupe should be able to do the same task in less than 6 seconds.

The new hybrid system of the 2011 Range Rover LRX will involve a combustion engine that will power the front axle and an electric motor for the rear wheels.
The 2011 Range Rover LRX will be based on the same transverse engine platform as the current Freelander and is expected to bring a success in Middle East.

Distinctive new LED front and rear lighting complemented by exterior updates - 2010 Q7 models include 3G MMI 3D navigation screen and SIRIUS traffic - Interior enhancements include additional ambient lighting, decorative inlays and available ventilated front seats
HERNDON, Va., Aug 25, 2009 - Audi today announced the U.S. manufacturer's suggested retail prices for its redesigned 2010 Q7 models, scheduled to arrive at U.S. Audi dealers in September 2009.
2010 Audi Q7 (excluding $825 destination charge, taxes, title, options and dealer charges):
Q7 3.6 quattro® (Tiptronic®) $46,900
Q7 TDI® quattro (Tiptronic) $50,900
Q7 4.2 quattro (Tiptronic) $61,000
The modern philosophy of the new Audi Q7 reflects the attention to detail requested by customers, especially with markedly updated exterior and interior features. The 2010 Q7 lineup presents the most innovative execution to date of the Audi signature LED lighting. The redesigned Q7 SUVs offer standard LED taillights with available LED turn signals and daytime running lights.
Exterior enhancements include a new wheel program, updated front and rear bumpers, distinctive new front headlamps and tail lights, single frame grille in gloss black with vertical chrome strips, exterior mirror housings, and a new lower body panel strategy featuring contrast paint for the Q7 3.6 quattro, full body paint with Chrome package on the Q7 TDI quattro clean diesel, and S line treatment on the Q7 4.2 quattro. The equipment packages for the 2010 Q7 3.6 quattro and the 2010 Q7 TDI begin at the Premium level, while the 2010 Q7 4.2 quattro starts with the Prestige level packaging.
The Q7 3.6 quattro comes equipped with the V6 3.6 FSI engine, the Q7 TDI quattro comes with the 3.0 TDI clean diesel engine, while the Q7 4.2 employs the V8 4.2 FSI engine. Now all of the Q7 engine offerings meet stringent California ULEV emissions regulations.
Interior upgrades include optional ventilated front seats, a new decorative inlay on the passenger side of the dashboard, additional ambient lighting on all four doors, an upgraded MMI system, additional interior chrome accents, and a new instrumentation font.
The redesigned 2010 Audi Q7 features technological advancements as available features that enhance both interior and performance luxury. The 3G MMI (Multi Media Interface) provides richly detailed 3D map courtesy of an automotive grade NVIDIA™ chip for graphics processing, along with SIRIUS® traffic and joystick control. The system also features voice-based destination input control and voice inputs, such as "I'm hungry," "I need gas" and "I need coffee" that will point to the closest options.
Audi Q7 is also one of the safest SUVs on the road with a NHTSA 5-star crash safety rating and IIHS "Top Safety Pick" designation. Safety continues to be a top priority for Audi, which offers more models earning "Top Safety Pick" recognition from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety than any other German luxury car brand.*
In Spring 2009, Audi launched its first-ever TDI clean diesel model in the United States in the form of an Audi Q7 TDI. Using the long-standing 20-year expertise of the Audi brand with TDI Power, this vehicle uses an innovative system that provides ULEV (Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle) clean emissions available in all 50 U.S. states. In addition, this vehicle provides over 600 miles per tankful in highway driving and has an EPA fuel economy estimate of 17 mpg for city driving and 25 mpg for highway driving, which equates to 30% better fuel economy than a comparable V6 gasoline engine. Audi has a history of refined TDI clean diesel performance engines with the Le Mans-winning R10 TDI race car that won all three 24 Hours of Le Mans races from 2006-2008 in which it competed. The Audi Q7 TDI qualifies for a $1,150 Alternative Motor Vehicle Credit from the Internal Revenue Service for a limited time due to the fuel efficiency and reduced greenhouse gas emissions of its clean diesel technology.
Audi is also the first car company in the United States to equip 100% of its gasoline engines with FSI direct injection technology beginning with model year 2010. Audi began racing with FSI direct injection technology in 2000 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the American Le Mans Series with the R8 FSI prototype racing sports car. Once this technology first became available for U.S. Audi customers in late 2004 with the introduction of the 2005 A6 3.2 FSI quattro, the list of Audi vehicles sold in the U.S. with FSI direct injection technology has continued to grow.

Tuner outfit 9ff is apparently planning to release the GT9-R as a convertible. While the hardtop will be restricted to just 20 units, the convertible will be even more exclusive. Only three editions are expected to be produced.
Appearing for the first time in Essen last year, the 9ff GT9-R uses a twin turbo 4.0-liter engine that produces a brilliant 1120 horsepower and a maximum 1050 Nm of torque. The hardtop is expected to go from 0-60mph in just 2.8 seconds, and should hit a maximum 257 mph (413.51 kph). That could potentially take the production car speed record away from the SSC Ultimate Aero, which was set at 255.83mph (411.71 kph).
Customers in the UAE will get first crack at the three convertibles. If they do not sell, 9ff will sell the GT9-R open-top on the open market. Along with the sketch, it is the first we have heard of the GT9-R in months.
Big ups to WCF reader VaderInc for sending us this info he spotted on the 9ff website for clients in the United Arab Emirates. Although the UAE site is still being put together as the tuner firm preps their new digs in Dubai, this sketch of the GT9-R convertible appears in front of one of the coastal city's most iconic buildings.

Quite possibly, the most exclusive Lamborghini LM002 ever made, a seven-passenger (two up front, plus five at the back) estate version with an extended rear end that was originally built for the Sultan of Brunei, is up for sale - again. Aside from the rear-end modifications, the unique LM002 Estate also features an upgraded interior with electric front seats, roof-mounted CD and DVD players, LCD monitors, electric sunroof, unique wood trims and more.
There's no list price for the Lamborghini, which has covered a mere 5,600 km or about 3,480 miles since it left the factory, but as the saying goes, if you have to ask... If it makes any difference to you, the seller of the 1986 LM002 Estate claims that the second owner of the muscular off-roader was former BMW and Volkswagen CEO, Bernd Pischetsrieder.

GEMBALLA MISTRALE - the new, fascinating GEMBALLA luxury limousine based on Porsche Panamera models
Right at the market introduction of the Porsche Panamera, GEMBALLA Automobiltechnik GmbH & Co. KG for the first time publishes images of the GEMBALLA MISTRALE and presents fascinating features. The design of the GEMBALLA luxury limousine is even more dynamic, more striking and significantly more exclusive than its serial counterpart. For perfect surface quality and custom-fit processing of the newly designed aerodynamics components, GEMBALLA mainly uses the ultra-light and high-strength material carbon.
Part of the dynamic front look is a far more sporty front skirt. Larger air inlets guarantee the optimal supply with fresh air for future performance increases. An integrated carbon lip and an elegantly formed bonnet with slotted ventilation ducts complete the lifting-force reducing front. A striking eye-catcher of the GEMBALLA MISTRALE and visual allusion to the classic 911-design are the extended front and rear fenders. A newly designed rear apron with integrated diffuser provides enough space for four end pipes of the sport exhaust system and seamlessly fits into the overall package.
But not only design and aerodynamics are refined by GEMALLA. Also the performance of the four-door automobile is significantly improved. A newly programmed air suspension module with extended setting range lowers the centre of gravity up to 40 millimetres. For especially ambitious customers, GEMBALLA offers a height-adjustable coilover suspension. In connection with the ultra-light 22-inch forged rims both versions render best vehicle control and also optimal road contact. For excellent deceleration values and perfect pedal control, GEMBALLA adds a high-performance brake system. 6-piston brake callipers with 420 millimetre brake discs at the front axle and 4-piston brake callipers with 380 millimetre brake discs at the back axle replace the serial components.
GEMBALLA, the specialist for high-end Porsche refinement and innovative engineer design plans further modifications, such as powerful performance enhancements up to 750 hp for different serial engines. And also in the interior, owner Uwe Gemballa leaves his distinctive mark with an innovative design and unsurpassable quality as usual. For more information about the GEMBALLA MISTRALE and the extensive GEMBALLA refining programme, please visit the web site www.gemballa.com

It's only been a year or so since Kia gave the Optima, which is called Lotze in South Korea and Magentis in Europe, a mid-life makeover, but Hyundai's subsidiary has just announced the domestic market launch of a subtly revised 2010 model year. The new looks aren't so obvious as the exterior styling changes are limited to a new mesh grille, dark headlamps, new LED tail lights, black treatment for the lower part of the rear bumper and newly designed 17-inch alloy wheels.

The refreshed Lotze is available for order in its home market, but it is unclear if or when the updated version of the Optima and Magentis models will make their way to North America and Europe respectively.
Inside, Kia makes word of new trim and color options as well as additional features. There are no mechanical upgrades as the South Korean market Lotze will continue to be offered with the same four-cylinder engine lineup as before that includes a 2.0-liter unit with 163-horsepower and a 2.4-liter with 179-horsepower.

Man, talk about an honor. We knew going in how special the first annual Concours d'LeMons would be (just check out the classes). What we didn't know exactly was just how horrible the cars would be. Turns out, pretty dang horrible. This weekend at Cars and Coffee we spotted a fairly awful (and filthy) Volvo 245 wagon parked near a pristine Ferrari 275 GTB and some drool-inducing TR6s. Why? Because it had received some sort of trophy at Concours d'LeMons.
Nothing can prepare you, however, for the wretchedness of the Worst of Show-winning KV Mini 1. It's actually hard to describe how amazingly terrible this hunk of French junk is, but we'll try. First of all, there are 125 cubic-centimeters of fury under the rear hood. That kind of muscle, or lack thereof, is good for a top speed of 43 mph. Second, like a Fuldamobil, putting the KV Mini 1 in reverse is only made possible by spinning the engine backwards. Hey, why not? But the topper here has to be the car's drive stones. Literally, stones. They are fitted atop the rear wheels and yes, traction in the rain is as unimaginably terrible as you're imagining.
