2011 Mercedes-Benz R-Class facelift spy shots

The first facelift came less than two years after the vehicle was first shown at
2005’s New York Auto Show, and was implemented mainly to increase the car’s
desirability. A cheaper rear-wheel drive model was added to the lineup as well
as a more flexible seven-seater model, but other than that the R-Class remained
mostly unchanged.

Sales figures for the R-Class haven’t managed to live up to the expectations of
the German luxury brand, but Mercedes-Benz is determined not to completely
write-off its ‘Grand Sport Tourer’ just yet. The R-Class received a mild
facelift in 2007 to help turn around flagging sales, but a second and more
extensive update is in fact planned for the 2011 model year as previewed by
these latest spy shots of a prototype caught testing in Germany.

At the rear there appear to be only minor changes, with a redesigned bumper,
exhaust tips and LED tail-lamps.

Expect to see the 2011 Mercedes-Benz R-Class facelift make its world debut at
the 2010 Detroit Auto Show in January.

For the next update Mercedes-Benz will give the car a major styling overhaul
with a new front-end planned as well as a slightly revised rear and interior.
Expected to be launched in the second half of next year, the new R-Class appears
to receive the same squared-off treatment as seen on the A- and B-Class models,
including angular headlights and a larger more prominent grille.

Monterey Ca, (October 9, 2009) – Gil de Ferran started his weekend as he would
like to continue with a stunning pole position in readiness for the tenth and
final round of the American Le Mans Series at Laguna Seca tomorrow (Saturday
10th October).

The Brazilian driver and team owner of de Ferran Motorsports could not contain
his delight with his third (and his team's fifth) pole of the season.

"This is obviously a very special weekend for me as it is my final race," said
Gil. "I have tried not to focus on this when I'm in the car and just think about
getting the most out of the Acura and keeping my eye on the ball. It is not easy
particularly with the special white livery for this race and the presence of Jim
Hall who we are honoring this weekend. But I did it and it leaves a good taste
in my mouth for an hour or so; then I have a four hour race tomorrow to think
about!"

It was not an easy ride to pole for de Ferran. He was hounded all the way by his
championship rival and driver of the sister Acura, David Brabham, who was just
0.092 off de Ferran's pole time of 1.11.206 (itself a fraction off the track's
class record of 1.11.175). The car was not perfect and de Ferran feels there is
still more to come.

"We've been struggling with the handling all weekend," said Gil. "We have gone
in lots of different directions to try and solve the problem and we made a big
change just before qualifying which seemed to improve things. But it is still
not perfect. We had understeer in turns three, four, five and six so I was
throwing the car into a slide just like a go-kart. It was kind of fun but we did
have a few anxious moments at the end. But I have the pole and that is great. It
is also consistent with other big moments in my career: I was on pole in my last
ever IRL race in Texas and I went on to win that one. So I am heading in the
right direction!"

The whole weekend has also been well documented as a tribute weekend to Jim Hall
and his iconic Chaparral marque. The media and fans were wowed by the sparkling
one-off livery of the No. 66 XM Radio de Ferran Motorsports Acura ARX-02a when
it was unveiled by Jim and Gil yesterday (Thursday). With half an eye on his
past – de Ferran won his first ever IndyCar race with Hall at Laguna Seca – the
present is very much at the forefront of Gil's young team. With the chance of
championship honors still very real, tomorrow's race represents one of de Ferran
and his super-quick team mate, Simon Pagenaud's greatest challenges.

"It is still anyone's race," said Gil, "and the championship is up for grabs. I
would dearly love to win my last ever race as a professional driver but I won't
drive differently. I pride myself in being a rational person and I believe
whether you are racing for a million dollars or one cent you just have to give
it your best and that is what both Simon and I will be doing tomorrow."

Simon Pagenaud will start tomorrow's four hour race. Gil has been named Grand
Marshal of the race by the Laguna Seca organizers and he will be asking the
drivers to 'start their engines', but there is also another good reason why Gil
would like Simon to take the green flag...."I want to be the first person to see
the chequered flag in my last race!" grinned de Ferran.

The Monterey Sports Car Championship Presented by Patrón is scheduled to start
at 14.25pm (Pacific Time) tomorrow (Saturday 10th October). It will be televised
in the US on Speed TV on Sunday 11th October (tape delayed) at 14.30 (Eastern
Time) and in Europe on Motors TV on Sunday 18th October (tape delayed) between
17.00 and 21:00.

2010 Mitsubishi Evo X 1.jpg

Mitsubishi has released today the images and details of the 2010 Mitsubishi Evo
X which has received a number of upgrades and a mild facelift. Unfortunately,
the official press release is in Japanese so we managed to extract just a few
details. As far as the exterior look goes, the 2010 Mitsubishi Evo X comes with
larger side skirts, the front bumper is now manufactured from a new plastic
that's 1.5 kg lighter that the current one. AS seen from the images released by
the company, the 2010 Mitsubishi Evo X comes with a new color computer display,
new air conditioning dials.

Also, on the 2010 Mitsubishi Evo X GSR now comes with the twin-clutch SST
transmission only as the five-speed manual was dropped. If you're looking the
drive the 2010 Mitsubishi Evo X mostly on the highway this is actually a good
thing because the 5-speed manual is not very comfortable in these conditions.

Los Angeles will be a busy show for the Blue Oval boys. In addition to the
official introduction of the U.S. Ford Fiesta, the rumormill regarding what's
powering the 2011 Ford Mustang range figures to stop spinning once and for all.

We, along with green cars maven John Voelcker, were guests with Ford's global
product development chief, Derrick Kuzak, on FoxNews.com's Fox Car Report
yesterday. Kuzak didn't divulge any specifics regarding the Mustang during the
broadcast, but as we all headed out following the appearance, he did let us know
that our Mustang questions would be answered in Los Angeles this December.
Earlier published reports have indicated that a new, more powerful, 300+
horsepower base V6 is in the offing, along with the widely-expected
400-horsepower 5.0-liter V8.

The other juicy rumor floating around that we want to see come true is that of
an aluminum-block version of the 5.4-liter supercharged V8 for the 2011 Shelby
GT500. To that end, we simply asked Kuzak, "How about an aluminum-block GT500?"
He just smiled and replied, "That's a good thought." We'll cross our fingers
while we wait and see.

ENCO Gladiator 700 GT Biturbo

The Gladiator

Up until the year 2002, it was completely unthinkable to most people in Germany,
and especially to sports car fans, that Porsche would at some point in time make
a sports utility vehicle. The name Porsche has always been synonymous with
thoroughbred sports cars, in most cases rear or mid-engined. However, the
Cayenne proved to have the recipe for success. In the 2003/2004 financial year
it moved almost 40,000 units and was by far the most popular Porsche model.

The "Zuffenhausen Bull" also quickly became popular with tuners, as it offered,
both visually and technically, an outstanding basis for monumental show and
performance projects. Less well-known than the market leaders, Chemnitz-based
ENCO Exklusive have produced probably one of the best Cayenne interpretations
with their ENCO Gladiator.

ENCO Gladiator 700 GT Biturbo

It's the second glance that makes the difference

Even though the Gladiator is noticeably bigger and more powerful than the normal
Cayenne at first glance, you have to look carefully to see how meticulously the
team, centred around Jens Engelmann, have integrated their aerodynamic kit with
the full size SUV.

What is not immediately obvious is the ENCO front apron right underneath the car
with its huge air intake and its integrated rows of daytime running lights,
another set of which can be found on the diffuser apron at the rear which has
distinctive fins and a central opening for the exhaust pipe. The bonnet with
incorporated air intakes is crafted out of carbon. Even less obvious is the roof
spoiler with air flow openings and the widened side panels with recessed air
vents which, along with the side skirts, make the Porsche appear more muscular
and broad. Only Cayenne experts can really spot the aerodynamic styling just a
few centimetres under the skirting-line at first glance. It's "well hidden", but
forms a significant part of the dynamic performance of the ENCO Porsche. The
two-tone black and Bordeaux red paintwork is also very classy.

ENCO Gladiator 700 GT Biturbo

700 PS thanks to the turbo upgrade

The Cayenne Turbo itself is far from lacking in the power department, but ENCO
Exklusive couldn't leave it at only 500 PS and sent the Gladiator to the weights
room. Through the insertion of larger turbo chargers, an ENCO-designed sport
exhaust system with manifolds and sport catalytic convertors and numerous
further engine modifications, the supercharged V8 - which is officially called
the "Gladiator 700 GT Biturbo" - possesses a hefty 700 PS and produces some 850
Nm of torque. Even weighing in at 2.5 tonnes, the Gladiator still races to
100km/h in only 4.5 seconds and can reach a top speed of around 290km/h.

At such speeds, the Gladiator carries such an incredible amount of kinetic
energy that a bazooka could hardly stop it, and must be able to be brought to a
stop in as short a distance as possible. For this reason, ENCO equipped this
high-calibre projectile with a high-performance braking system with 410mm x 36mm
brake disks and 12-piston callipers on the front axle and 380mm x 32mm disks
with 4-piston callipers on the rear. Of course, such an impressive braking
system requires a lot of space, of which ample can be found in the ENCO Jura
alloy rims. They measure 11" x 23" and are compatible with the 315/25R23 Dunlop
Sport Maxx GT tyres. An electronic suspension module for the standard Cayenne
Turbo suspension lowers the car by 50mm.

ENCO Gladiator 700 GT Biturbo

Red carbon

The wow-factor is continued inside the car. There are four individual leather/Alcantara
bucket seats taken from the Porsche 911 GT3 that have been further enhanced with
carbon backrests and red carbon-fibre padding. Wherever you look, red carbon
gleams: Fittings made from the high-tech material adorn the dashboard, the
steering wheel, the centre console and the door lining. Likewise, the whole
vehicle is painted red, including the roll cage.

Chinese Firm To Buy HUMMER This Week

发表者 ddgg 10/9/09

2009 Hummer H3

HUMMER owners who feel morally justified in their choice of the brand due to its
American symbolism need not freak out completely: if the sale to Sichuan
Tengzhong goes through, the Chinese company plans to put the global brand
headquarters near Detroit, thanks in part to a $20.6 million state tax credit
from Michigan.

2009 Hummer H3

Back in June we brought you the lowdown on HUMMER's talks with Chinese firm
Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Co., and since then the updates on
the deal's progress have been steady. Now a report from a source briefed on the
deal says Sichuan Tengzhong and GM could sign a deal as early as tomorrow.

2009 Hummer H3

If you're asking yourself why China wouldn't want one of its native companies
buying the HUMMER brand, it's a fair question with a curious answer. Turns out,
Communists don't like gas guzzlers. Apparently they don't hate them enough,
however.

Chicken counting should not yet commence, however, as the deal will
still have to be approved by Chinese and U.S. regulatory agencies before it's
officially done.

2009 Hummer H3

On the other hand, nothing official has been announced by either party and with
the sudden and complete breakdown of the Saturn sale to Penske last week, it's
clear that nothing is certain these days. A rumor earlier this year that the
Chinese government had forbidden the purchase by Sichuan Tengzhong caused some
mild panic on the web, but has since blown over.

Prior to the U.S. launch of the Volkwagen Golf MK VI, a few months back rumors
emerged that the Americans were going to get a crack at the GTD version of the
hatchback. For those unfamiliar with the GTD, it's essentially the much loved
GTI but with a 170 hp version of the 2.0-liter TDI diesel. Unfortunately, when
we got the details on the Golf lineup last week, the GTD wasn't included. While
in Germany this week to drive the new Golf lineup, we spoke with VW of America
product planner Andres Valbuena about the GTD's fortunes, and the news is
promising.

One car that's definitely coming is the Jetta TDI Cup model. This is essentially
a street legal version of the race car but without the race bits like the roll
cage. It will get the same front fascia available from the VW performance parts
catalog, along with the bigger brakes, suspension upgrades and interior bits
from the GLI sedan. Unfortunately, the TDI cup replica keeps the standard 140 hp
engine instead of the 170 hp unit in the race cars. The cup car will probably
have its public debut at LA Auto Show in December prior to going on sale in
January.

According to Valbuena, while the GTD didn't make the cut for launch, it is still
under consideration. In fact the GTD could arrive within the next 18 months.
Originally, it was speculated that the GTD would likely carry the existing 140
horsepower diesel along with all of the other good bits. Valbuena tells us that
if they do offer the GTD in the U.S., VW will do it right and bring the high
output 170 hp engine.

Mystery Opel Mule Spied Using Modified New Astra Body - 10.08.2009

The Zafira was first produced in the late 1990s as a rival to the likes of
Renault Scenic and to a lesser extent the Chrysler Voyager. The one currently in
production features high seating positions and a flexible 7-seat arrangement.
Engines are a mixed bag of petrol and diesel while an OPC version makes a
productive 177kW (241hp) that's channelled to the front wheels through a 6-speed
manual transmission.

Mystery Opel Mule Spied Using Modified New Astra Body - 10.08.2009

A Coupe is another possibility. Since GM got in trouble Opel has frozen
development of high-performance OPC models across the range. That means even if
this car was an Astra Coupe it probably would not be the one on steroids.

Mystery Opel Mule Spied Using Modified New Astra Body - 10.08.2009

Speculation is that these spy pictures of an Opel test mule represent the 2012
Zafira. The car features wider wheel arches, with the front one looking a lot
more rolled out than the rear. While it might seem unlikely that a Zafira MPV
would be dressed up as an Astra, it is plausible if you recall that both are
based on General Motors' Delta II platform on which the Volt also sits.

Preview: 2010 Lexus LS 460

发表者 ddgg 10/7/09

2010 Lexus LS 460 L

Even as Lexus and Toyota battle back a 3.8-million-vehicle safety recall for
faulty floor mats, the product update cycle relentlessly moves forward. Today
brings the unveiling of the updated 2010 Lexus LS 460, with updated styling and
a new telematics system among the chief changes from 2009.

The updates apply to the LS 460 and LS 460 L, in both rear- and all-wheel drive,
though the rear-drive model does get a few unique upgrades.

2010 Lexus LS 460 L

Visually, the front gets a revised grille, bumper and new headlights, while the
rear gets similar treatment with new taillights, license plate surround and
exhaust diffusers. Along the sides, new mirror-integrated turn signals and an
updated 10-spoke design for the standard 18-inch alloy wheels change things up
for 2010.

The real addition to the 2010 LS 460 party is the Safety Connect with Lexus
Enform telematics system. We've already delivered in-depth coverage of the
Enform system, but on vehicles equipped with the optional navigation system, the
new combo of tech services makes it easier than ever to get where you're going
or get help if something happens on the way there.

2010 Lexus LS 460 Sport

Also new for 2010 is an optional Sport Package for the rear-wheel drive LS 460.
Combining the Aero kit's exterior styling with special air suspension tuning
parameters and exclusive interior features, it ups the driving experience for
those interested in more than A to B transport. The appearance package can be
purchased separately if you'd rather have the look without the stepped-up
handling. Whether you choose the full treatment or just the sport-look, you'll
get a unique front grille, front lower spoiler, side skirts, and rear lower
spoiler, plus 19-inch five-spoke wheels.

2010 Lexus LS 460 L

A few tech updates also come to the 2010 LS 460, with the Advanced Pre-Collision
System from the 2009 Pebble Beach Edition LS 600h L offering active pedestriam
detection in addition to other pre-collision duties. The APCS system uses
millimeter-wave radar to detect roadside objects, and responds by aiding braking
to avoid collisions.

The cabin becomes a bit easier to use thanks to a slide-away driver's seat that
makes ingress/egress easier, a new multi-information display that makes use of
the big center-mounted LCD screen, voice-command navigation system and Bluetooth
audio streaming including USB/iPod connectivity.

2010 Lexus LS 460 L

The drivetrain retains the performance of the 2009 model, with the same
VVT-iE dual-injection 380-horsepower, 367-pound-feet 4.6-liter V-8 engine in
rear-drive trim, while all-wheel-drive models get output figures of 357
horsepower and 344 pound-feet of torque. That's good for 5.4 seconds 0-60 mph
for the RWD and 5.9 seconds for the AWD, while still delivering 16/24 mpg and
16/23 mpg, respectively.

The rest of the 2010 Lexus LS 460's features and options carry over from the
previous year's model. Pricing and availability are expected to be announced
soon.

MAHWAH, N.J., October 6, 2009 – Jaguar today announced that it will kick off the
holiday car shopping season with a unique all new high-end entry to the market:
The 2010 Jaguar XJL Supercharged Neiman Marcus Edition, exclusively through the
celebrated Neiman Marcus Christmas Book. Jaguar will produce only 50 of the 2010
Jaguar XJL Supercharged Neiman Marcus Edition - making it a stylish and unique
way to celebrate this holiday season. This is the third time a Jaguar has been
selected as the featured vehicle in the Book. In 1968, the XKE Grand Touring
Coupe was featured, and most recently, the 1997 Jaguar XK8 Convertible.

The all-new 2010 Jaguar XJL Supercharged Neiman Marcus Edition, complete with a
five-piece set of matching Jaguar luggage in navy blue leather, will be
available for purchase in this year's Neiman Marcus Christmas Book for $105,000.
Reservations for the XJL Supercharged Neiman Marcus Edition open on Friday
October 16 at noon EDT by calling 1-866-524-6963. There will be only 50 Neiman
Marcus Editions made, and Jaguar and Neiman Marcus expect them to sell out fast.
For those not lucky enough to reserve one of these 50 Neiman Marcus Editions,
the XJ arrives in showrooms nationwide in early 2010.

“Being a part of The Neiman Marcus Christmas Book is a spectacular way to launch
the Jaguar XJ, one of the most anticipated new luxury cars in the market this
year," says Richard Beattie, Executive Vice President, Marketing & Sales,
Jaguar. “Designed to attract the clientele of Neiman Marcus as well as
automotive enthusiasts, the Neiman Marcus XJL Supercharged is unique and
intelligent. It demonstrates our commitment to producing fast, beautiful cars
that offer luxury, performance and first-rate quality."

An aggressive take on the highly anticipated all-new 2010 Jaguar XJ, the all-new
2010 Jaguar XJL Supercharged Neiman Marcus Edition, comes in an exclusive
Celestial Black metallic paint exterior and a custom butter-soft navy and ivory
leather interior with Zebrano matte wood accents. The Neiman Marcus Edition XJL
also has 20" double-10 spoke polished alloy wheels, illuminated tread plates and
trunk finisher as well as the nameplate on the custom interior Intaglio that
reads: "Neiman Marcus 1 of 50." The Neiman Marcus XJL Supercharged is powered by
a new third-generation 5-liter V-8 engine with an Eaton supercharger that
delivers 470 horsepower and also features the Jaguar Sequential Shift™ six-speed
ZF automatic transmission that adapts to its driver, with wheel-mounted shift
paddles for sport, standard, and winter mode driving.

The all-new 2010 Jaguar XJ was revealed to critical acclaim this past July, and
features a new frame that is pressure cast from aluminum and magnesium to give
the XJL a strong, light architecture that improves fuel efficiency, structural
rigidity and performance. A panoramic glass roof enables the car to have a
lower, more streamlined roofline, while dramatically enhancing the feeling of
light and space inside. The vehicle's LED light clusters wrap stylishly over the
rear wings, and feature three dramatic red vertical stripes while the elongated
teardrop shape of the side windows establishes the car’s silhouette.

The sleek design and refined luxury is continued inside the all-new XJ by mixing
newly advanced technologies and contemporary design to create an environment
more akin to a state-of-the-art living space than a car cabin. Chrome and piano
black detailing provide an eye-catching contrast to the beautifully crafted
leather and veneer surfaces. At the center of the instrument panel is an analog
clock with individual chrome chaplets, a spun metal face and iridescent blue
background; a look inspired by luxury watches.

There are stunning, three-dimensional, interactive 12.3" high-definition Virtual

2011 Opel Meriva Spied Completely Uncovered

More spy shots of the upcoming Opel Meriva completely undisguised have been
captured by photographers.

2011 Opel Meriva Spied Completely Uncovered

The Meriva is set to come with two 1.4 liter gasoline/petrol engines, one
turbocharged and one not. The turbocharged unit will feature 137 hp, continuing
a trend with the European volume brands of replacing their naturally-aspirated
1.6 or 2.0 liter engines with turbocharged variants of smaller powerplants.

These photos of the compact MPV are pretty revealing, and give away much of the
Meriva's styling and look. Opel has been developing a new design paradigm with
models such as the new Astra and the Car of the Year Award-winning Insignia.
Taking a good look at the Meriva, including previous spy shots, we can see how
Opel is maintaining a consistency with that paradigm while giving its little MPV
some character of its own, despite the copied kinked rear window belt line from
the Citroen C4 Picasso.

The standard array of Opel's small diesels will also likely be featured in the
new Meriva, ranging up to a 155 hp unit.

2012 Porsche 911 Cabriolet Spy

2012 Porsche 911 Cabriolet spy shots

The current 997 Porsche 911 is still being updated for its mid-cycle refresh,
with the standard Carrera, Carrera 4, Targa, GT3 and Turbo all receiving the
update for the 2010 model year. Still in the works is the new 2010 Porsche GT2,
though it too is drawing near to its expected unveiling.

Last year a 911 test mule was spotted in Germany by our spy photographers,
confirming that Porsche engineers are already well underway testing the
next-generation 998 model, and soon after that Porsche's chief of research and
development, Wolfgang Dürheimer, revealed some details of what to expect for the
new car.

Now we have images of the 998 911 Carrera Cabriolet, which is expected to be
launched in late 2011 or early 2012.

Speaking of the new car, Dürheimer said, "'it will be even more competent, even
sexier, even more unique. The design can of course only be evolutionary, but
beneath the skin, almost anything is possible". The 2012 Porsche 911, known
internally as 'project 991', will feature a few radical departures from the
911's long-running classical styling.

The changes are out of necessity more than anything, but they will be
noticeable. First, pedestrian protection rules in the EU will require a change
to the nose section of the car, likely meaning a larger and more collapsible
bumper section. The rear of the car will also be changed, but for aerodynamic
improvement.

Clear differences between the 998 and the current 997 model are the more upright
headlights, a slightly longer body, and the side mirrors now positioned at the
side of the doors and not at the window.

Other new features for the car will include heavy use of lightweight
carbon-fiber materials and active aerodynamics--surfaces that react to what the
car is doing, and how fast it's doing it. Expect adjustable front and rear
spoilers plus dynamically opening and closing air intakes.

It’s still too early to determine what changes Porsche has in store for the
engine lineup, but expect to see the familiar flat-six engine range carry over
with only minimal updates--possibly for emissions and economy standards. The new
PDK dual-clutch gearbox will also carry over as will a standard six-speed
manual. Rumors of a possible four-cylinder addition to the 911 lineup,
effectively bringing back the 912, and the revival of the 914 are shaking things
up. However, at this point nearly anything seems possible.

The car design community has been sent reeling by word that Honda plans to close
down its European design studio. The office forms part of Honda R&D Europe in
Offenbach on the outskirts of Frankfurt, Germany, and while the rest of the
research and development facility will continue operating in other capacities,
the design studio is reportedly being axed.

The two-floor, 3000-square-meter design studio at Offenbach opened its doors in
1992, and has since handled a variety of automotive and motorcycle design duties
for the Japanese automaker – including the Open Study Model pictured above. The
reported announcement of its closure arrives against the backdrop of cutbacks
across the board for Honda, including its withdrawal from major auto shows, the
sale of its (now championship-leading) Formula One team, and temporary closures
at assembly plants.

While some of Offenbach's motorcycle design responsibilities are expected to
transfer to Honda's comparatively tiny 200-square-meter studio in Milan, there's
no telling what will happen to the company's automotive design unit. But if we
were living and working in Frankfurt, we'd be pushing for a transfer to Italy
like there was no tomorrow – because with the rate at which Honda has been
cutting back overhead, we'd bet that's where the future is.
